In this Spanish lesson we are going to learn about discussing romantic encounters in Spanish. First we will learn some relevant grammar and vocabulary and then see if you can follow a short audio conversation in Spanish. The transcript to the audio will be given at the end of the post but please try not to look at it until you have tried playing and understanding the audio a few times.

Ligar: To make out with
Flirtear/Coquetear: To flirt
Una frase para ligar: A chat-up line
¿Tienes novio?: Do you have a boyfriend?
¿Tienes novia?: Do you have a girlfriend?
¿Estas soltero/a?: Are you single?
Eres muy guapa: You are very pretty
Eres muy guapo: You are very handsome
Eres muy sexy: You are very sexy
Eres espectacular: You are spectacular
Me gustas mucho: I like you a lot
Me encanta estar contigo: I love being with you
Me vuelves loco/a: You drive me crazy
Estoy loco/a por ti: I am crazy about you
Te deseo: I want/desire you
Tienes unos ojos muy bonitos: You have beautiful eyes
Tienes una sonrisa muy bonita: You have a beautiful smile
Nunca he visto a nadie tan guapo/a como tú: I have never seen anyone as good looking as you

Te invito a tomar algo: I would like to buy you a drink
Te invito a cenar: I would like to buy you dinner

¿Por qué no vamos a un sitio más tranquilo?: Why don’t we go somewhere quieter?
¿Puedo llevarte a tu casa en mi coche?: Can I give you a lift home?
¿Quieres entrar para tomar un café?: Would you like to come in for a coffee?
Me gustaría volver a verte: I would like to see you again
Tengo muchas ganas de verte otra vez: I am really looking forward to seeing you again
¿Quieres hacer algo mañana?: Do you want to do something tomorrow?
¿Puedes darme tu número de teléfono?: Can you give me your telephone number?
Te llamaré: I’ll give you a call
¿Quieres casarte conmigo?: Will you marry me?
Now play the audio to listen a conversation. Can you understand what is being said? Play the audio a few times before you look at the transcript. Don’t worry if you don’t understand every single thing the two people are saying. Try to catch whichever words you can and then try to piece things together to work out what is being said.

Vanessa: Hola
Gordon: Hola ¿estás bien?
Vanessa: Sí claro. ¿Por qué me preguntas eso?
Gordon: Es que me miras un poco raro.
Vanessa: No te miro raro, hombre. Es que me gustas mucho. ¿Cómo te llamas?
Gordon: Soy Gordon. ¿Y tú?
Vanessa: Vanessa .Tienes unos ojos muy bonitos.
Gordon: Vale gracias. Mira lo siento tengo que irme.
Vanessa: ¿Puedo llevarte a tu casa en mi coche?
Gordon: No de verdad, gracias. Prefiero ir andando. Me gusta hacer ejercicio.
Vanessa: ¿Quieres hacer algo mañana? Tengo muchas ganas de verte otra vez. Te invito a cenar.
Gordon: ¿A cenar? No, no. Tú eres muy directa ¿no?
Vanessa: Para qué voy a perder el tiempo. ¿Sabías que tienes unos ojos muy bonitos?
Gordon: Gracias. Mira Vanessa. Eres muy guapa y muy simpática pero tengo novia.
Vanessa: ¿Qué? ¿Y por qué no me lo has dicho antes?
Gordon: ¿Antes? Eeeeh… No me has dado la oportunidad. Te lo he dicho cuando he podido.
Vanessa: No, no, no. Me lo podías hacer dicho un poquito antes y no dejar que hiciera el ridículo. Lo que pasa es que te gustaban los halagos. Todos los hombres sois iguales.
