In this Spanish lesson we are going to practice the different uses of Parecer and Parecerse. As usual, first we will review some relevant grammar and vocabulary and then see if you can follow a short listening.

Let’s test your listening comprehension and see if you can understand a short audio in Spanish. The transcript to the audio will be given at the end of the post but please try not to look at it until you have tried playing and understanding the audio a few times.

Intermediate Spanish Lesson – Different uses of Parecer and Parecerse
Now play the audio to listen a conversation between between two friends. Can you understand what they are saying? Play the audio a few times before you look at the transcript. Don’t worry if you don’t understand every single thing the two people are saying. Try to catch whichever words you can and then try to piece things together to work out what is being said.

Transcript:
Mark: Ana ¿Qué te parece si vamos de vacaciones a otro país este año? Siempre nos quedamos en España.
Ana: ¿A otro país? ¿Pero por qué? En España tenemos el clima perfecto, la comida perfecta, la cultura perfecta, somos perfectos. ¿Por qué ir de vacaciones a otro país?
Mark: Bueno, bueno… todo no es tan perfecto aquí. Me parece que estás exagerando.
Ana: Pareces enfadado Mark.
Mark: ¿Enfadado? No, estoy aburrido de quedarme aquí todos los veranos.
Ana: Te pareces mucho a tu padre. Todo os parece mal.
Mark: ¿Qué dices?
Ana: ¿Ves? Me parece fatal esa actitud que tienes. Eres un desagradecido. Este país te ha dado trabajo y una familia.
Mark: ¿Pero Ana? ¿De qué estás hablando? Me parece que no me entiendes para nada.
Ana: Te entiendo perfectamente. No te gusta España. Pues ala, vete de vuelta a tu maravillosa Inglaterra. Con ese clima patético y esa comida patética.
Mark: Pero Ana, no estoy hablando de Inglaterra. ¿Por qué no vamos a un país parecido a España? ¿Qué te parece Italia?
Ana: Mmmm.. Italia suena bien. Déjame que lo piense.
Mark: Vale venga.
