In this Spanish lesson we are going to practice talking Spanish at the beach. First we will learn some relevant grammar and vocabulary and then see if you can follow a short audio conversation in Spanish. The transcript to the audio will be given at the end of the post but please try not to look at it until you have tried playing and understanding the audio a few times.

Don’t worry if you don’t understand every single thing the two people are saying. Try to catch whichever words you can and then try to piece things together to work out what is being said.

Transcript:

Julia: Steven, te veo muy rojo. ¿Cuánto tiempo llevas tomando el sol?
Steven: Todo el día. Desde las 10 de la mañana.
Julia: ¿Te has puesto crema solar?
Steven: No, no uso crema solar.
Julia: Creo que deberías usarla. Tu espalda está quemada. ¿No te duele?
Steven: No. No me preocupo por cosas así. El dolor es un mito.
Julia: ¡Qué dices hombre! ¡Qué chorrada!
Steven: ¿Has oído lo que me pasó el fin de semana pasado?
Julia: ¿Qué?
Steven: Estaba haciendo surf en esta playa y me atacó un tiburón.
Julia: No hay tiburones en estas aguas.
Steven: Por supuesto que los hay. Hay muchos tipos diferentes de tiburones en este océano.
Julia: Vale, vale. Bueno sigue. ¿Entonces qué te pasó?
Steven: Bueno, estaba surfeando junto al arrecife cuando un enorme tiburón se me acercó.
Julia: Ah, claro, sí, me lo puedo imaginar. ¿Entonces qué hiciste? ¿Golpearle al tiburón?
Steven: Por supuesto que no. Amo a los animales, nunca podría hacer daño a una criatura marina. Me fui rápido, cogí la siguiente ola y la surfeé hasta la orilla.
Julia: ¿Y el tiburón?
Steven: El tiburón estuvo montando la ola detrás de mí por un tiempo, pero fui demasiado rápido y se largó.
Julia: Sí, claro. Así que en realidad no te atacó.
Steven: Ya te lo he dicho, fui demasiado rápido. ¡Los socorristas no se lo podían creer!
Julia: Sí, yo tampoco me lo puedo creer.
Steven: Y los otros bañistas en el agua y la gente en la playa estaban vitoreando.
Julia: ¡Venga ya! ¡Déjate de tonterías! Creo que el sol te ha calentado la cabeza.
Steven: ¿Te apetece tomar algo en ese chiringuito?
Julia: Para aguantar más tonterías como está… No.
