We’ve pretty much covered all the basics for surviving summertime in Buenos Aires, but there is something very important that we left out: this city goes into overdrive when it comes to concerts and outdoor shows. The new and improved El Recoleta has activities scheduled every Friday. So does hipster venue Camping. But the grandaddy of them all (is that expression still a thing? Was it ever?) has to be Parador Konex, that mammoth three-month event that takes place at one of the coolest hubs in all the city: Ciudad Cultural Konex.
Just for context, El Konex is that place you got drunk on that random Monday night while dancing to La Bomba del Tiempo. Ring a bell? Cool then, let’s continue.
Rocking Summers Since 2007
Since its first edition, way back in the simpler, social media-free days of 2007, El Konex launched its first Parador season, a concept to offer outdoor activities that took full advantage of summer in the city. The program included concerts, plays, and dance parties until the sun came up. Ever since, more than 90,000 people have enjoyed the event each year, with a vast and impressive array of performers showcasing their lineups, including Fito Paez, Café Tacvba, Louta, Miss Bolivia, Kevin Johansen and Él mató a un policía motorizado.
The 2019 Edition
The official launch party for this year’s Parador Konex is this Thursday, January 17th (possibly Friday if rain screws everything up) and will feature a couple of indie darlings from the current booming scene in Argentina: Bandalos Chinos and Francisca & los Exploradores. The party will continue on Sunday with Chilean pop sensation Javiera Mena, who will be showcasing the best of her short but intense career so far.
The rest of the confirmed lineup includes El Kuelgue, Darío Sztajnszrajber, La Vela Puerca, David Lebón, Dancing Mood, Raly Barrio Nuevo, La Delio Valdez, Miss Bolivia and a very special midnight cumbia concert simply called Cumbia Konex, which will feature Jambao, Los Del Fuego, and Banda Juarez.
The tickets for Thursday’s opening are available online and are worth AR $300 when bought before the day of the event (AR $350 on Thursday itself). The music begins at 7 PM so be sure to get there on time. There’s a bunch of discounts with Club La Nación, Clarín 365, and several others. For more information, visit Konex’s official website.
Another Parador Konex is finally upon us, so let’s dance the hot nights away with some of the best music in town. And to get you started, we’ll leave you with a playlist with several of this year’s bands.
