Since Chevrolet made the decision to start equipping all its models with high technology, they have become the most equipped in each of their segments. And in that sense, the statement points not only to what it does to safety or comfort but also to everything that is related to the increasingly demanded connectivity. In fact, they were the first to offer built-in Wi-Fi in their vehicles, even in the most accessible ones, such as the Onix.
And it is also the case of Cruze 5 -This is the name of the hatchback version of the compact sedan-, that we tested in its LTZ variant, the one that is one notch below the top of the Premier range.
At the beginning of this year, the Cruze underwent a new restyling after the one that had been carried out in 2019; at the same time, the LTZ version that had been discontinued was re-offered.

In this new facelift exclusive design 17 ″ alloy wheels were added, grill and bumpers with a more sporty look, daytime running lights and taillights with LEDs, and chrome inserts in various parts of the body (grill, window base, side handles and others). However, the modern, attractive and sporty silhouette that looks really good on you and that was always a feature of this model.
In terms of technology, a 8 ″ touch screen with the new generation of MyLink system and built-in Wi-Fi, which allows you to connect up to 6 devices at the same time and the OnStar assistance system. In addition, it has a navigator, backup camera, front and rear parking sensors, on-board computer with color screen in five modes (general information, audio, telephone, navigation and vehicle settings), electric panoramic roof, remote engine start system with air conditioning start, cruise control, and more.
Safety is a strong point of the Cruze, and while it does not include autonomous emergency braking, blind spot and forward collision alerts, lane keep assist and the front vehicle distance meter, it does have steering controls. traction and stability, 6 airbags, brakes with ABS and EBD and others.
Like its sedan brother and the rest of the range, this LTZ equips a modern and well-known mechanics: the 1.4 L inline 4-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine with direct injection and variable timing that generates 153 hp at 5000 rpm and a torque of 25 kgm at 2000 rpm, and which in this case is associated with a 6-speed automatic transmission. It is a set that complements very well, with an impeller that responds effectively in any range of the tachometer (advantages of having the good torque available at medium / low revs) with progressive power delivery and a fast, well-staggered transmission that goes through gears with precision like so that you never lack reaction and, so that on the road, you travel well relaxed (at 130 km / h it works at 2200 rpm).
That is why the benefits are very good: Accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 8.4 s, recovers from 80 to 120 km / h in 5.5 s and covers 0 to 400 m in 16.3 s; the maximum speed declared by the manufacturer is 220 km / h.
- Engine: gasoline with turbo
- Cylinders: 4 in line
- Displacement: 1399 cc
- Power: 153 hp at 5000 rpm
- Torque: 25 kgm at 2000 rpm
- Compression: 10: 1
- Valves: 16
- Gearbox: 6-speed automatic
- Front-wheel drive
It is also well known ride comfort of this model, with a set of suspensions rather soft and well regulated that perfectly absorbs the irregularities of the road and that do not transmit to the cabin neither bumps nor bounces.
The dynamic behavior not far behind: you feel it firm, stable, with very good grip and without harmful body movements in curves. In addition, it brakes very well, since it takes 40 m to come to a complete stop from 100 km / h.
That is why its efficiency must be taken: in urban cycle it spends about 9.5 L / 100 km while on the road at 120 km / h it drops to 7.5 L / 100 km.
The suggested retail price is $ 2,990,900, not yet reached by the new scale of the luxury tax and within the margins of its segment.
