Sep 24 (Reuters) – Peru’s technical director Ricardo Gareca called up 30 players on Friday for the October games against Chile, Bolivia and Argentina for the 2022 World Cup qualifier, in a list that includes the return of striker Jefferson Farfan.
Farfán was cited after almost a year of absence from the group, to which Boca Juniors defender Carlos Zambrano and América midfielder Pedro Aquino will also return, excluded in previous calls.
Peru, which is in seventh position in the table of the qualifying tournament for the Qatar World Cup with 8 units, will face Chile at home on October 7, Bolivia as a visitor three days later and will close its presentation against Argentina on October 14 in Buenos Aires.
“Jefferson has spent a lot of time trying to get back on the court and we think he can contribute in many ways to the national team right now,” Gareca said of Farfán. “Adding the contribution of experienced people is important at this time.”
The coach said that the opening match against Chile will be crucial as both need points to advance. After the triple date of September, “La Roja” was in the eighth step of the table with 7 points.
“The game with Chile is decisive. It will be a very attractive match because we both play a lot of things,” said the DT.
The list of those summoned by Gareca is as follows:
Goalkeepers: Pedro Gallese, Carlos Caceda, José Carvallo.
Defenders: Miguel Araujo, Luis Abram, Luis Advíncula, Christian Ramos, Ánderson Santamaría, Alexander Callens, Miguel Trauco, Carlos Zambrano, Marcos López, Jhilmar Lora.
Midfielders: Edison Flores, Sergio Peña, Christian Cueva, Wilder Cartagena, Renato Tapia, André Carrillo, Joshimar Yotún, Christofer González, Raziel García, Pedro Aquino, Gabriel Costa.
