In this Spanish lesson we are going to practice talking about school in Spanish. First we will learn some relevant vocabulary and then see if you can follow a short audio conversation in Spanish. The transcript to the audio will be given at the end of the post but please try not to look at it until you have tried playing and understanding the audio a few times.

Now play the audio to listen a conversation. Can you understand what is being said? Play the audio a few times before you look at the transcript. Don’t worry if you don’t understand every single thing the two people are saying. Try to catch whichever words you can and then try to piece things together to work out what is being said.

Transcript:

Silvia: ¿Cómo le va a tu hijo en la escuela últimamente John?
John: Bien. Podría irle mejor, pero también podría irle peor. ¿Y a tu hija?
Silvia: María está muy triste. No ha ido a la escuela en dos semanas.
John: Qué lástima. ¿Qué problema tiene?
Silvia: Presión. Se siente muy estresada por los exámenes y todo el trabajo que tienen que hacer.
John: Mi hijo no es tan estudioso como María. No creo que sienta mucha presión porque no le importa si aprueba o suspende.
Silvia: María siempre ha sacado sobresalientes, pero ahora tiene mucha menos seguridad en sí misma. Se preocupa por muchas cosas. Es perfeccionista.
John: Y adolescente.
Silvia: Exactamente. Tienen mucho en la cabeza a esta edad.
John: En la escuela de primaria solo les preocupaba el color de su estuche o de su goma.
Silvia: En el instituto hay mucha presión sobre los estudiantes. Demasiada presión. A María le encantaban todas sus asignaturas en primaria ahora odia todas: matemáticas, ciencias, historia, geografía…
John: Es normal odiar esas asignaturas, ¿no? A mí solo me gustaban la clase de educación física y la clase de plástica.
Silvia: Pues a María le encantaba todo. Es muy triste para mí que haya perdido su pasión por la educación. Aún más triste que esté deprimida.
John: ¿Has hablado con el director?
Silvia: Sí, en varias ocasiones. De hecho, tengo otra reunión con él esta tarde. María va a venir también.
John: Espero que puedas encontrar una solución. Mis mejores deseos para María.
Silvia: Gracias John.
