How did SACS originate?

Initially founded as a toy drive in 1999, distributing items to the children of low-income families, the project soon evolved into its current incarnation, acknowledging the importance, yet lack of, education for children in Buenos Aires. Run by a dedicated group of predominately English-speaking expats and dedicated volunteers who work diligently throughout the year, the organization survives solely on donations funded by individuals, corporations, and small businesses who recognize the importance of educational tools in aiding children to reach their full academic potential.

From an achieved reach of 1,900 children in 2016, last year the organization prepared 2,315 backpacks and delivered them to 36 institutions across the city, traveling over 3,717 kilometers in just 22 days. With requests for aid from institutions such as orphanages, after-school centers, food kitchens, nutrition centers, shelters for battered women, and other institutions that request support for their children, it is clear that the demand is extremely high, and SACS continues to grow and strengthen year after year, striving to meet its demand.

Diwali: The Festival of Lights

In the celebration and recognition of Lakshmi, the goddess of prosperity, SACS is organizing a special fundraiser event for both its supporters and volunteers, to bring to light the importance of the organization and raise its sponsorship. Celebrated every year in autumn/spring in India, lamps are lit to help Lakshmi find her way into people’s homes, representative of bringing light into our the most challenged areas of Buenos Aires and marking the victory of light over dark.

From 7.30 – 10 PM at Quinta de Anchorena, it is sure to be a festive evening with Indian inspired food, drinks, live music, and Bollywood dancing. Note: tickets are only available in advance at [email protected]
