When life gives you lemon, make lemonade. When life throws a natural disaster your way, through an asado?

Extreme flooding in Santa Fe province hasn’t stopped one group of friends from enjoying that most beloved of Argentine traditions: the asado.

Neck deep in water, the group of friends from the town of the flood-stricken town, La Emilia, stoke the coals and turn the chorizos on their aquatic asado. The set up looks looks a little something like a grungy poolbar, minus the turquoise water and piña coladas.

Asado has never required much more than meat, salt and something – anything – that serves as a parrilla, or grill. But this wet and wild version is certainly an innovation.

The friends, whose photos have gone viral, are also rock musicians, which probably makes them the most admired people in Argentina at this moment in time.

La Emilia is in the extreme north of Buenos Aires province, close to the border with Santa Fe, which has seen severe flooding since late December. Hundreds have been evacuated from their homes, after a year’s worth of rain fell in the course of a month.
